Manchester based indie quartet Spring King were the spontaneous product of leader and producer Tarek Musa’s DIY recording project, which began in the modest surroundings of his parents disused and ripped out bathroom. With a drum kit and practice amp in tow, he crafted what would become Spring King’s effervescent debut ‘Tell Me If You Like To’.
Following these erratic, impromptu recordings Tarek needed a band. Fellow members became friends Pete Darlington, Andrew Morton and bassist James Green discovered thanks to a Facebook ad. Booking their gigs initially without so much as a drummer Tarek took on the role himself, and the final four-piece have gone on to amass a boundless and impressive schedule of gigs and festivals, as well as a deluge of national acclaim.
Their punchy, melodic garage-pop reached widespread attention through Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on Radio 1, and have also received support from publications including NME, The Guardian and the Line of Best Fit to name a few. They’ve also found themselves touring with the likes of Slaves and Courtney Barnett.
Their music sensitively skims themes like loneliness and sadness but never fail to sound riotously joyous.
A band that doesn’t have an off switch and will admit to their “play till they puke” approach to live sets, Spring King are certainly not one to miss this festival.
