The Sound Machine is Reading’s longest running independent record shop trading in vinyl, CDs and memorabilia. It opened in a small shop in Harris Arcade in 1990, the owners have expanded the shop over time to its current size.
They buy and sell a huge range of items from a variety of genres, including rock, pop, jazz, punk, classical, soul and reggae. They also sell music memorabilia; like autographs, gig posters, magazines and programmes. As an independent business the shop regularly take part in the international Record Store Day event. At a time when most record stores are under threat of closure, The Sound Machine has continued to thrive, trading with clients in Reading and across the country.
